Exclamation Tail/Dash Light Problem. Not a Short.

Hey all.

So tonight I fell victim to what seems like a common and normally easy to resolve problem.

I was driving around dusk and my gauge cluster started to flicker a bit. I didn't think anything of it since we all know how great the ambient light sensors are.

A little while later, I lost the gauge, HVAC controls, and the tail lights.

I have checked the parking light fuse and it looked alright. I replaced it just to be safe, but no luck.

I have rear signal lights, brake lights, and reverse lights. Just no running lights.

It cant be a short because that would trip the fuse.

WHAT DO I TRY NEXT????

Thanks in Advance.

Al

No coby, I dont have a plate light. Its been out for months. Ive seen a few people saying that was an issue, but all of them seemed to have blown fuses to go along with it.

Would i have to replace the light to complete the circuit or could i just remove it?

My guess is both your tail light bulbs are blown. The BCM will turn off your cluster lights to warn you but only when both are out. You might have had one out for a while. This puts a bit more voltage on the second one which eventuality takes it out too. This filament is separate from blinker and brake filament.

I checked the bulbs and the filaments appeared ok. I have spare bulbs I'll go change them now and report back. Thanks for the suggestion

No luck. I'm thinking tomorrow I might take the seat out and trace the harness right to the trunk. I've hear there's a split under the carpet that isn't waterproof very well.

Ever heard of this?

Did you check under the hood to see if you had power at the fuse with switch on?
There are 2 little test points at the top of the fuse for your test lead.

imgur: the simple image sharerSo I found it to be this under my drivers seat causing my issues. I cut it out and rewired it and everything works except my dash lights.

I don't really wanna take the seat back out and unreal the harness to mess with it again. Is there a way to bypass this? Could I fuse tap the indicator from the gauge to the accessory power so it comes on with the vehicle or something? Does anyone know which wire going to the gauge is the one that tells it when to turn on or should I be working from the other side of the dimmer switch?
