What color is normal for inside of tailpipe?

Today I noticed that the inside of my tailpipe had black residue. I cleaned some of it out with throttle body cleaner and paper towels. Is this normal?

Black residue=rich condition...good. When you floor it from time to time, you should notice a black small cloud in rear mirror...thats the carbon build up residue from normal driving being exhausted at WOT. It equals normal

if SS/SC/TC, normal. All others, pretty normal aswell. If its smoking all the time, might have an issue... but nothing to worry about if residue is in the pipe

Never any smoke. Just liquid on the ground at start up.

Yep...our 06 LS has the same (black & liquid) which is normal affects of combustion (soot + condensation). If you drive a lot of short-trips...tends to be a little more vs. someone driving longer treks. My daughter drives 5-miles (one-way) to school so it's a normal thing.

Look what happened to the side of my garage. Probably from letting it warm up all winter.

The black water residue coming from the tail pipe is a combination of condensation and carbon. Its completely normal if its not in large quantities.

The inside of my tail pipe with 2500 miles on it is still shiny as if I haven't driven a mile.
