Window Regulator Problem?

Hey all,

Just today noticed on my XFE LS I went to fire up the car and roll down the window (hot day) (manual roller) and heard a loud pop and thunk sound come from by the handle. I got back to work and managed to pop the door panel off (that C clamp is really tucked in there!). Noticed a plastic tab was not engaged behind the regulator and popped it back into place.

I didnt have much of time to mess around and inspect all areas, but after putting the door back together, when I shake the door, you can hear what sounds like metal bouncing back and forth (like a coat hanger hitting the door panel type of sound). I was thinking that the regulator could be broken, but the window rolls up and down with no stress. I also noticed a grease smudge on the window next to the rear view mirror area. Wonder what the problem is?
