Intermittent Key Issue...car Won't Start or Key Can't Be Removed

Would this be a shifter issue or something else?

Sometimes when I go to start the car it won't start...it will always start after I remove and reinsert the key, sometimes I have to do this a few times. Also I occasionally can't remove the key...I usually fix that problem by either turning the key on and off again, or by moving the shifter from P back to D and back.

Check the little switch on the shifter to make sure it's push well into place.

I had to melt the ends of the 2 little post in the gold Cobalt so it would stay in place.

JR.. you may already know that the ignition on the cobalt (and other GM products) can behave just as you describe and that there's a recall notice on the Cobalt ignition. We've had two GM vehicles that had ignition switch problems where the key couldn't be removed and GM replaced the ignition in both cases free of charge.

I checked, and the car already had the ignition recall done last year. I'll try Coby7's fix in the next few days.
