New Keys / Recall

Went to Chevy dealership today for ignition switch recall service.

I was out within 1.5 hours - not bad. Friggin hot today though for that 1.5 hours of waiting, 89 degrees (feels like 95+). Isn't it November? Had to drink a beer in the shade to stay cool.

Great idea whoever posted this:

If your a 1 key used car owner and want a spare key while saving $50, get your recall serviced for free at a dealership and you'll get a free spare key.

My key fob is weirdo, it takes 5-50 seconds for me to disarm the theft deterrent and unlock doors. While I'm holding this button down I can see the security light flash on instrument cluster every couple seconds on the dashboard but the doors don't unlock until they feel like it at totally random intervals.

I have read a bunch of key fob posts on this forum, I think I need new buttons or the foil duct tape with paper hole punch trick that Coby7 posted

The only thing consistent is that the door does open and disarm the TDM, it might take 5 seconds of dashboard flashing, or 1 minute to open doors and disarm TDM.

Hey Coby7 ever heard of key fob door unlock button pressed, security light flashes on dashboard but doors don't open consistently?

Yup you need a new keypad and clean the old carbon off the circuit board.

Thanks I'll give that a shot!

I can pickup new button pad/case for it at parts store for like $15.

That would be a good deal. Make sure you clean the gold contact area with alcohol also. While you're at it clean wipe the battery with alcohol also and try not to touch it with your fingers.

Thanks Coby7, I picked up a Dorman "help" key fob at local parts retailer that was the plastic case and a new button pad. I cleaned the contact area of the PCB with 90% alcohol first aid stuff (did not have anhydrous alcohol), and used the new button pad and the original case and it worked liked a charm. Now I can lock/unlock doors in a matter of seconds. Helps when your carrying a case of beer and a bunch of groceries.

I wanted to use the new plastic case from the fob kit (cuz mine is cracked/broken) but it did not fit the original circuit board, so I had to use the original plastic case and a new button pad.

THe new button pad didn't fit the GM plastic case exactly correctly but after clamping it together with a spring clamp its solid.

Unlocking doors has never been easier with a case of beer

They sold you the wrong case or you bought the wrong case.

You bought the case for the OUC60270, U need the case for the KOBGT04A.

You got the one on the left you need the one on the right. Notice how the contact surface is bigger on the pad from the right.

Your right, the one on the left is the one I have and the one on the right is the original. But the buttons are working now though. Do you think I should seek out the correct one from the retailer? I have the receipts.

THanks Coby7
