Key Unable to Turn

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with my ignition. I can't get the key to turn at all.
I realize that this is common when the battery drains but my battery is charged and I'm able to take the key in and out of the ignition.
So I did some reading and I found that disconnecting the battery for a while should reset any computer malfunctions or electrical issues.
I did this and let it set for about 30 minutes and I was still unable to turn the key.
Should I try again and let it sit longer? Or has anyone else had this issue and was able to resolve it?

The only issues I have periodically with my ignition is that when I turn the key from run to ACC, it will not come out. I have to press the brake, put the car in drive, then back into park, then the key will go to the off position & come out. I had the ignition recall done a year ago but it still acts up from time to time.

I also have had the recall done. I think that the issue is that the car thinks that it is not in park so it won't allow me to turn the key. I should also note that I'm unable to shift as well (the car is in park).

I disconnected the negative terminal and let it sit overnight this time with no luck yet again.

There's a switch on the shifter that often falls out of place. Take the top of your console off and have a look at it. Sometimes the pin will miss and not activate the park switch.

See here how the pin is under the micro switch lever where it should be.

See here where the pin is above the lever instead of under.

I melted the tips of the two pins holding the switch in place, I believe this was the intention of the original engineering design but was somehow omitted in the assembly process. The pins are long enough that once melted they will then hold the switch in place. All of my 3 Cobalts had this problem at one time or and other. The 07 was the first and it took me a while to figure it out. Was easy when it happened to the 08 and 10.

This is how it should be. Pin is highlighted in yellow.
