I Think It's an Electrical Problem?

My daughter has a 2008 Chevy Cobalt w/automatic transmission. Sometimes when she's driving, the gauges go nuts, the speedometer goes out, the dashboard just does weird things. And sometimes the car won't start at all. When she turns the key, the lights come on, the radio works, but the engine does nothing. No solenoid click, nothing at all. A new starter motor didn't help.

My mechanic has no idea what to do next, and has given up on this car.

Help?

Check the ground under the drivers seat for corrosion.

Also try disconnecting all connectors to the BCM and reconnecting, you may have a bit of corrosion there too.

So after routing through the dash, Replacing the link between the starter and alternator, new starter, new alternator, and fully charged battery. The cluster acts normal and I now crank like crazy but no start. It tries to but it's like it don't know what to do. Sort of like timing may be off, (not really possible per say) I have had the battery disconnected for several months also have taken the bcm out several times. Is it possible that the pcm lost its program?
