Plug Wires, and Cracked Rear Shock Covers

I have an '08 Cobalt XFE and an '09 LT, both sedans.

The '08 has 101K miles. Starts and idles smoothly, but I'm thinking of replacing spark plugs at the dealer since the owner's manual says 100K. Is it an absolute must to replace wires at the same time? I'm sure the dealer will suggest that.

Also, had an oil change at the dealer on the '09, which has 75K miles. I was told the rear shock covers were cracked, although the Service Writer said he didn't know if that would really be a safety issue. I passed. Opinions? Thanks!

lol rear shock covers are just that, covers. They are cheap plastic and never last and more of an esthetic item than a functional one.

These cars don't have spark plug wires per/say since the coils are mounted directly on the spark plugs, you may want to ensure the harness going to the ignition coils is in good condition and not rubbing anywhere.

Thanks for the info; much-appreciated!

Both these cars still have their original batteries! Amazing to me. I'm going to replace both batteries soon anyway. The '09 will be going with my daughter to college, 4.5 hours south of here, in a month.

I put both my daughters through university with 2 Cobalts, one is now a DOCTOR the other well, well a work in progress. These 2 vehicles since 2010 have been relatively trouble free. Good choice.
