2006 Cobalt Parking Brake Adjustment

My parking brake cable seems to have stretched. Even if I remove the trim and use the adjusting nut to maximum on the cable it is not grabbing my rear shoes brake good enough for me to park on a steep hill safely.

Can I McGyver a fix to the e-brake cable by making it shorter somehow? Or should I plan on installing a new e-brake cable and assume after 12 years it has stretched ?

Or should I pull the drums off and double check the rear shoe adjustment?

Thanks in advance.
