Power steering loss

So my son's 2005 cobalt coupe base model loss power steering yesterday. So of course I thought the worse.... steering rack gone. But, after some research I cleaned up about 4 different ground wires and it started working. Going to keep a watchful eye on this. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I know this a common thing on this forum. Thanks

Yeah, the power steering motor has a habit of going out. Has it had the recall performed on the steering motor?

Yes....way before we purchased the car. When the steering went out it threw a U2100 and P0700 code. After I cleaned 4 ground wires it worked fine and the check engine light went away without reseting with a code reader.

Honestly, I think that since it's working okay after cleaning the ground wires, that probably means you took care of the root cause of the issue.

Of course, keep an eye on it, and if it goes out again, then look into replacing the power steering motor, but it's probably ok for now.
