06 Cobalt, AC Fan Speed Knob is Not Acting Right

So the Fan speed selector knob is not working right. There is no longer 4 distinct settings denoted by the resistance and/or click when turning. Further it seems the fan only operates at "off" or full speed and if the fan shuts off I have to play around with the knob to get it back on but its weired like its currently in the "off" position but that's the only way it will work.

I see there is a AC control module available out there, but is it possible to just replace the fan knob or do I have to do the whole thing?

Ill probably hold off on it for a bit since its not a dire issue but thanks for any input.

There are reasonable schematics over at autoZone for this. Take a look at | Repair Guides | Hvac Systems - Manual (2006) | Hvac Schematics | AutoZone.com

Normally when it only works on high it's because the blower motor resistor has died.
