Also if your really that worried about your ignition, you could go to autozone or any parts store and get a new ignition... there are other companies that make replacement ignitions.

I'm 99% sure that GM uses a system that is updated by the DMV system to figure out where the cars are and who to send the letters too. Like I said if the car is not registered, it makes it a bit harder, so I'm sure they send it to the last know owner/address that the DMV has on file. When you register a car, it may be instant for that states computer system, but every DMV runs on a different system, that is why they give you paper copy of your registration. For some systems, such as the one GM will prpbably use to send out recall letters it may take months to update... that's why they are required to send multiple letters over a year and half.

Check out this article in USA today about the recall.

got my recall notice today and it said wait for the parts to become available. that may be some time. it also said to take all extra keys off the ring to avoid undue stress on the locking mechanism. so far my key is not loose i checked it by turning it to off and seeing just how much force it took to turn it off, no more that the s10 i have, but when arts come in i will get it fixed

No way, I won't believe that without a picture.

Engine Shutdown

This Recall is long overdue, I have writting been about it on this site since 2011. I have had contact with GM Headquarter Reps several times between 2011-2012 and they denied that the Colbalts' were having any such problem. I also talked with a Rep at the NHTSB and was told that they had NOT received other complaitnts of this type. She suggested that I file a complaint thru them and once they received enough complaints they would investigate. Sadly, I know for fact (cuz I told them) that both General Motors & NHTSB knew of the problems with the Colbalt and both failed to act. We Still have this car and we still have Total Engine shutdowns... We really don't want this car, but we don't want to pass it on and endanger someone else life.

Hey I had to get my ignition switch replaced 3 years ago because the key got locked in the RUN position. I had to leave it at a shop while it was running. Is GM going to reimburse me for this?
