The new Ford Explorer has a composite front end body part that hangs the radiator, grille, headlamps, etc. It is lighter and easier to mold than anything made of steel. Ford did it for fuel economy.

I think a manual transmission will be available on the "Eco" version. The Eco version is not available yet, from what I see of the "build your own" configurator.
