Performance Tires?

what makes 'em performance? like why is a specific better tire, better? i understand improved grip, but what tire has that because of whatever cutting edge tech they put into the tire? and what is that tech?

i guess i'm sorta tire shopping and want to know how to distinguish good and great in the tire world from a performance aspect

A lot of things... Speed rating, profile, temperature rating, traction rating, treadwear rating, rubber compounds and other factors..
See Tirerack.com for specs you need.
