Having Some Trouble with Rear Drums

so my wheel cylinder went out on driver side and so my dad and i are replacing the drums, shoes (both sides) and obviously the wheel cylinder.
we've got the driver side disassembled, and we're trying to get the new shoes on, but the E-brake line wont fit into the notch of the new shoe. we've tried pulling the spring back and the line out, but its just not going.

got any tips? is there a specialized tool that should be used? i was told by a buddy that the replaced cylinder should be compressed all the way, then try it. but i dont see how that'd work for the e-brake line.

feedback is much appreciated

Glad you got the issue resolved...the internet is a great source of info. and probably saves us a ton of repair/maint. costs.

When I did mine I just pulled both sides off and then only disassembled one at a time, after the first one the second only took about 10 minutes although the first still took about an hour.
