Original GM Aluminum Wheels Coated ?

My 2008 Special edition has aluminum wheels. I want to polish them, but the Mothers polish says I should check to see if they are coated. I can try to see if I get the black aluminum oxide. Has anyone already been through this?

Guessing they mean "powder coated" in which the outer shell's baked onto rim surface. Is it checking to make sure your rims are coated, or not? I'd call Mother's customer service for advice as sometimes these "clauses" are included to protect them from liability, if you damage surface(s) with their product(s). Never had any trouble with products on tires/rims...

Factory alloy wheels have a clear coat. Suppose to be a protective coat but doesn't help much against road salt which is highly corrosive to aluminium. (aluminum for americans)

I was taking the paint off my SS/TC wheels and let me tell you, it's pretty thick and resistant to weaker paint removers. But those wheels have never seen winter.
