Adaptors and Spacers: A Little Confused!

I didn't know who else to turn to except for you guys on this one. lol

I'm looking for a wider stance with my '08 Cobalt LS and I have researched spacerrs and adaptors that will help space the wheels out for a better stance. But I'm a little confused because I keep reading different answers on the hub measurements. I have a 4 lug pattern on the wheels I have now. I'm just a little confused on the whole thing. Can I use Adaptors to get a wider stance without having to use spacers, or is that a big no no? I know that if you use adaptors and the OEM studs come out past the adaptors, you have to cut them off, I got that much. I've been researching all this for about 3 hours now, and am about to go a little bit crazy. haha

So my questions in a nutshell...

1) What's better for a wider stance: Spacers or Adaptors?
2) How do I know what my hub size is?
3) and is there anything else I need to know before I go drop money on all this?

Thanks for any help offered.

You can use either or depending on how much offset you want. Usually Spacers up to 20mm then you will have to switch to adaptor spacers. To know the hub size just measure the outside diameter. Mine are 63mm.

I don't want to go so big that it looks weird. lol But I do want a more aggressive look when looking at it from the front and the back. I'll see if I can get a picture of it tomorrow and post it here to see what you guys would recommend as far as the adaptor size. But thank you for the help.
