4 to 5 Lug Conversion

Has anyone converted their cobalt from a 4 lug to a 5 lug using the wheel hubs off of a SS? Will the hubs be a direct bolt on or will I have to completely change out the whole assembly?

It's easy but you need to change out the brakes too which is the hardest part. Hubs have to be off of an LSJ not an LNF.

Its not worth it IMO. Too expensive for what you get but andrew is the guy to talk to since he did it to his ls

I am in the process of doing this too. I've gathered most of what I need but I have a few questions yet. Hopefully someone has this info....

1. I purchased 5 Lug, front calipers from an 07 G5 from my local boneyard.


I rebuilt and powder coated them. These should be a direct fit, correct? The question I have is about the brake lines. I was looking at stainless brake lines on ZZP's website. They show a different brake line set for the following :

04-07 Cobalt SS and Redline supercharged
06+ Cobalt SS 2.4
06-11 HHR
07-09 G5
08+ Cobalt SS LNF
ZZPerformance - Stainless Brake Lines for your SS & Redline #ZZ-BRKLN-CBTRDL

The auto parts stores also show a different caliper part number between Cobalts and G5's. The numbers cast into the calipers appear to be the same. So, whats the difference? On ZZP's site, they differentiate between the Cobalt and the G5 too. Is the difference in the brake line where the body brake line connects to the rubber hose? The piece I'mtalking about is pictured above. The connector in the red brackets. Are they a different size/threaded different? If so, why would the parts stores list a different caliper if all you get is the caliper and not the brake line? Is the banjo bolt also a different size/thread?

2. I am picking up a complete 2005 LSJ rear dead axle on Friday. Its sold with the axle, axle mount brackets, ABS harness, hubs, springs and shocks. Aside from calipers/rotors/pads, E-brake cables and new bushings, is there anything else I'll need for the conversion back there? Will I also need different brake lines on the axle?

So far, I've purchased SS/SC rims, 4 new hubs, 2 front calipers, 2 front rotors and pads

For reference, my stock set-up is 4 lug, front disc, rear drum, 4 wheel ABS

well, I rebuilt the wrong calipers. damn it. I already bought SS rotors too so, I need to replace one or the other. I'm not going to go through all this trouble to have the same braking system. I suppose I need to buy the right calipers and try to sell these

Well that's a shame on the bright side hit up Corry Brown on Facebook, considering red calipers and those are a hell of a lot better than just painting his.

is he on here? I'm not sure which Corry Brown he is on FB. I've got $130 in these damn things. $30 a piece from the junkyard, $40 total for 2 rebuild kits (new seals, slide pins, boots) and 30 in powder coating cost. If I could get that+ shipping, that'd be swell. That works out to $65 a piece for rebuild and powder coated calipers. They are from a 5 lug G5 with front discs, rear drums

Honestly, I think the powder coat was $50 for the pair but I can't remember now. I had it done locally over the summer. They did a good job and there was only one small area of out-gassing.

I found some red calipers on eBay. Since I don't have rear calipers I wouldn't have 4 to return for the core. I contacted the company about sending my 4 lug calipers and the rebuilt 5 lug calipers back for my core refund. They said I could do that. I'd hate to send these red ones as a core as they are new and pretty now.
