Faint, Intermittent Scraping Noise

Hi all,

I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt LS Coupe, 2.2L, 145k miles; very well maintained. I want to try to keep it running for another year or two, and lately I have noticed this very slight, intermittent scraping noise which seems to come from my front left wheel well. I mostly notice it just when I begin driving, at slow speeds, and it does not appear to vary with brake usage (it still occurs when the brakes are not applied). I have also noticed that depending on the weather, it comes and goes.

I did the brakes and replaced the rotors myself about 10k miles ago, and they seem to work fine. I don't notice any major pulling when I apply the brakes, and the car drives relatively straight when I let go of the wheel.

Any ideas? Or should I just not worry about it? Its a 10 year old, A to B type car anyhow.

Was going to suggest the exact same. When you did the brakes you may have inadvertently bent the backing plate. They are easy to bend, then later you pick up dirt and the noise begins or the cold distorts the plate just that much more scraping the rotor or rust on the rotor swells just enough to now touch the plate.

Just bend her back in position away from the rotor.
