Transmission Replacement

I have a 2009 chevy cobalt that is in limp mode. I was told that the transmission would need to be rebuilt or replaced. I am a student and can't afford $1500 to replace, but I have found a used one much cheaper. However it is in a 2008 chevy cobalt. Will the two transmissions interchange? Thanks in advance for the help!

Never heard of a transmission putting an engine in limp mode. I'd take it for a second opinion plus if you can tell us what the codes are that would help too. These transmission rarely fail. it is usual a harness that rubs on the side of the thermostat housing or dirty contacts in the BCM that cause the serial GMLan to fail and losing communication between ECM and TCM. What is your transmission not doing?

I don't think the transmission from the 2008 model will fit a 2009 model. Here's a genuine OEM GM web page with the 2009 transmission showing to fit 2009-2010 for your reference https://www.gmpartsprime.com/oem/che...-17804106.html
