Question 07 Cobalt 2.2 Auto-No Start Problem- Shifter Related or ??

Hi, my Cobalt did not start today and Saturday until I put key in "ON" position and pulled shifter down to first gear and then up to Park and then it turned over. I first tried to start in "N" and nothing until I moved shifter down and then up a couple of times then it started- no stiffness or looseness in shifter.
Any help appreciated as it is very cold out these days to get stranded.

Thanx

Are you saying your key wouldn't turn to run? I'm not sure I follow.

It turns if the shifting lever moves. Must be a bad switch but hard to tell which one. Might be the switch right on the lever, maybe a broken wire or faulty switch.

OK, on second thought maybe it is the PNP switch going bad or bad connection. Here is the diagram for it. Depending on year some have 2 connectors others just one.
