Clunk when Putting in Gear

When I put my car in 1st when stopped I hear a clunk. Sometimes when I shift to second also. Thinking it could be tranny mounts, or possibly clutch related. Anyone ever have this problem and fixed it?

Are you letting off the clutch when it does this? I've never heard of a standard making a clunk when engaging a gear, a grinding sound however is a common manual transmission noise

Its a clutch issue. Its not fully disengaging with the pedal all the way down. Id recommend getting a new clutch.

I was thinking clutch. I'm at 160k and second owner. figured it was coming soon. Its not slipping yet, so I was hoping I could make it by for a bit longer.

You can drvie it with the clunk, the clunk is all the slack and trans making tension on the gears. It wont harm it, its just annoying, and an indication you are going to need a clutch soon.

Yeah. I wasnt worried it was needing replaced immediately. It still goes into gear smoothly and no grinds, its just that initial into first, and then second. It is kind of odd that it doesnt always do it. I am curious of if my floor mats are possibly holding the pedal up just a hair too much. Prob not, but I'd go back to dirty carpet for this. Lol
