Shift Gears Without Pressing the Brake

Today, I noticed I can shift my car out of park without pressing the brake. I can do it with the key off or on. Also, I noticed I can't move the shift lever all the way to the lowest gear( the "1" setting PRND21)

Do I need to replace the shift assembly?

That may be but I shouldn't be able to move the shift lever without a key though right? How do I adjust it?

The center pin probably fell out.

You will just need to push it back in place, by pressing the knob you will see the appropriate hole it goes in.

So just insert the rod back into place, you will meet a little resistance at one point, keep pushing until rod is centered.

See how it now sits on the micro switch lever. This is the switch that permits the removal of the key when in park.

On the other side the pin will sit on top of a stopper that's activated by a solenoid when you put your foot on the brake

Not activated

Activated.

At this point you can press down on the shift button

If you can still remove your key from the ignition, this means that it didn't completely fall out and that it is pushed out towards the passenger side about 1/4 to 3/8" and the stopper is not blocking the rod at this point.

Shift Gears Without Pressing the Brake

So, I got it fixed. I took the console out and instantly I could see the problem. Some of my wiring from shift indicator light LED mod had gotten in the way. I shortened the wires and rerouted them so it won't happen again.

Thanks for your help guys.
