Second Trans Pan Magnet

Ive seen it recommended to add a second magnet to the tran pan, but never had anyone specify where the best place to put it would be. I picked up a magnet from AC Delco and will be draining the fluid this weekend, so if it could help putting the other magnet in there as well, id like to.

Hmmm, as much as I like the idea of an extra safeguard for my transmission, I dont really have a way to easily verify pressure isnt effected. Ill have to look around some more regarding filters and such...

Magnefine filters seem to be preferred for this sort of thing. I just sent them a message regarding concerns about fluid flow/pressure, so well see if that have much to offer on that.

Well the magnet collects the metal particles in the fluid, preventing them from flowing though the transmission and possibly causing more problems, so having two magnets offers the chance of keeping the transmission fluid that much cleaner. Will it have any noticeable effect on the function of things? No, not likely, but it couldnt hurt and might very well extend the life of the transmission.

Oh and the magnefine filter Im going to try is both a paper type filter medium as well as a magnet, offering that much more filtering to the fluid. I plan on placing it on the return line to the transmission from the cooler.

I spoke with Greg at magnefine and he assured me there is no restriction of flow or change in pressure by using the filter, so Im going to give it a shot. I found a number of forums where people discussed using them and I didnt find anything truly bad about them. Its recommended to change the first filter after 15k and then 30k each time after that.

Is it the bottom cooler line thats the return line from the radiator? I checked the DIY for installing a tranny cooler and that seems to be what that says referencing this picture.

Also, if Im going to be messing with the transmission cooler lines, is there a way to get a more complete drain of the system instead of just the approx. 7 quarts you get with a standard pan drop? Can I put things back together and leave the exit hose disconnected so as to add new fluid as the old fluid drains out while things are running or is it not worth risking the damage that could happen with a lack of fluid?
