Anyone Siphon Out the ATF from the Fill Vent?

I'm thinking about doing a partial change out of the ATF in the Cobalt. In many of my AT vehicles I've used a pump with a thin long plastic tube inserted to the bottom of the tranny through the dipstick and pumped out the transmission fluid. Then I would add precisely the amount removed. This has always worked well for me over the years.

Has anyone used this procedure in the Cobalt (I realize the Cobalt doesn't have a dipstick, just a plug for the fill vent) to change out the ATF?

Any reason why this method wont work?

Thanks

Wouldn't it be simpler to just drop the pan? Not sure how to get the fluid out of the torque converter through.

Not really simpler to drop the pan vs siphoning out from the top. Don't plan on dropping the pan until transmission filter changout.

Not concerned about getting all the ATF out, for example the fluid in the torque converter. I change my ATF often enough to where getting it all out or flushing the system is not a concern.

There was a TSB regarding the automatic transmission. Not sure on the details, but it had to do with adding an additional magnet to the casing. If you haven't done that already, you can kill that bird too by dropping the pan.

Someone can shine some light on that if you'd be interested.
