I just purchased a project 2006 cobalt LS with a 2.2 auto for my son and I to work on and we have determined that a piston rod is broken so I want to swap the motor with one from a wrecker. But I was wondering if there is a list somewhere of the other cars (Including what years work) that would have compatible short blocks.

my goal would be for a direct swap with no modifications.
Thanks people. Any help is appreciated.

If you happen to get a used engine and its from a 07 or newer, you may need to transfer some of the original l sensors. I dont recall there being much different in early 2000-up engines other than the 07-up got individual ignition coils and different valve cover. I believe even the accessory locations were the same. You would need to verify it visually and probably research your engine of choice before you decide on it. Also some got the secondary air injection. If yours has it, you'll need to make sure the new engine has it also.
