Please help anyone... I need help with my 07 Chevy Cobalt Ls Coupe. I just had a new engine with 120,000 miles on it along with a new fuel pump as well as a new timing chain and my car is constantly blowing the tcm/ecm fuses as soon as the battery is hooked up does anyone know what my problem could be and how much it will cost to fix... I was told it could be the wiring harness but I'm not sure because I know nothing about cars can someone please help me need to get this fixed because I need my car for work

Harness must be pinched somewhere. I assume you mean the fuse under the hood and not the one in the BCM block.

Can this problem be fixed? Because of this problem the tcm/ecm fuses constantly blowing my battery is constantly dying... any idea how much this should cost me to get fixed because I'm scared of taking it to an electrical auto shop to find out this problem is very expensive to fix but I need my car and it's my only transportation

Who put the engine in, they probably made the mistake?

A close friend he said all the grounds are good and my starter, Alternater, transmission are all fine.. just can't figure out why my car is constantly blowing the ecm/tcm fuses

i don't see how unplugging everything could still blow the fuses unless there is a ground that is being fed power, if he crossed wires somehow and got a hot mixed with a ground that's the only thing i could think that would still make them blow when nothing is plugged in.

i'm confused still though, if its completely unplugged, it shouldn't have power or ground going to it so it shouldn't be blowing fuses. to blow a fuse it would either have to be too much power, or a short to ground, you cant have either if its unplugged.

There are 3 ways of troubleshooting this. A quick and expensive way, a more expensive way and let somebody else do the work or the least expensive way.

1. Most expensive, let the dealer find the problem.
2. Expensive and quick, put in a large fuse and watch where the smoke comes from, that's where your problem is.
3. Least expensive but time consuming, remove burnt fuse and trace back the wiring to the problem. Since I still don't know if it's the underhood fuse or the BCM fuse your are talking about I can't tell the next step.

How much will that cost because I'm really on a budget and really can't afford $1000 of dollars to fix this stupid car but I need it to get to work. My mom wants me to take it to an electrical auto shop but I have no idea if that is going to be expensive or not so I'm scared to even do that so I'm completely clueless about my car and think I should probably just probably junk it and save up for something else

If he did crossed wires which I'm starting to think he could have gotten the wires mixed up how much do you think that will cost me to get it fixed so I can get my car back running again... everything comes on like it supposed too but since the fuses blew I no longer have power in my car

its difficult to guess at what it would cost to fix your car over the internet, especially given the limited information

do you have a community college or high school nearby that has an auto tech training class? if so, this could be a cheap place to get someone to find the problem.

Thanks but no I don't.... any idea to why the ecm/tcm fuses keep blowing because of them constantly blowing my car will not start... a friend of the family that is a mechanic is saying it maybe crossed wires and he said if that doesn't work and get it to start after he check the wires it's going to be out of his hands and I will need to tow it to an auto electrical shop Have anybody ever had this problem with the ecm/tcm fuses constantly blowing in their cobalt and how did you fix the problem and get your car back running again
