Both the LS/LT have 2.2L. Depending on options, some have 16" wheels with 4 bolt (alloy) or 5 bolt (steel). Yes, I know they are different.

Is there a reason for the difference other than wheel choice? Meaning is there some difference like driveshaft, CV joints, etc?

4-5 lug

For 08... LT2's (2.2L) and Sport (2.4L) both will have 5 bolt lugs. All others will have 4 bolt lugs regardless of steel or alloys.

I don't think there's any difference between a 2008 Cobalt 1LT (4-lug) and 2LT's (5-lug) brakes or suspension except for the fact that the 2LT includes anti-lock brakes, optional on the 1LT, even if you have 4-lug wheels.

This is interesting though:
The Cobalt Sport has larger brakes, preventing you from mounting the donut spare on the front wheels. Chevy doesn't provide a spare with the car that fits the front wheels.

They probably put the 'space saver spare' (i.e. donut) like that because it's not safe to put that small of a tire on the drive axle, unless they are both the same size.
