"But in our testing we found that taking 15 seconds to accelerate to 50 mph used less fuel than taking 30 seconds to reach the same speed, because the car entered its top, fuel-saving gear sooner."

Also because 30 seconds is longer than 15 seconds, so the engine will undoubtedly burn more gas in that time.

I try to keep Rpms at 2500 or lower
Do you ever drive on a freeway? Cruising in 5th gear on the freeway I'm at exactly 3000 rpms and that's at 75 mph (speed limit on the interstate is 70)

Speed limits are just signs, you don't have to drive that fast. If you lose 20% fuel efficiency by driving 75 instead of 60, why drive so fast? People need to chill, relax, enjoy the view. Live a little!!!

I mean, I try to get to places quickly so I can spend more time with friends/family/getting stuff done. I don't love highway driving, especially in Oklahoma where it's basically just, drive straight for an hour and a half.

It's called ''hurry up and wait syndrome''. These same people also tend to road rage.

I don't typically speed, I have a clear driving record, and the cheapest insurance rates because of it! My daughter (and grand kids, boy 3 months/girl terrible 2's) live 3 hours away, all interstate, and I drive there 2-3 times a month. Other than that, I live and work in the same small town, nestled in rolling fields of endless 12' corn stalks!
