Accomplished Oldhead J-Body Builder Bringing a Cobalt Back from the "Dead"...

Greetings, everyone!

I've been in the customizing game since my first very first car, a 1987 Pontiac Grand Am LE - back in 1994, the one that I fully paid for myself via my Taco Bell Drive-Thru earnings. During the numerous years since then, I've become a devoted GM loyalist. (If anyone cares to share, there's a #1 Cochran Pontiac 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT story from my childhood that I'd love to offer us.) Careful budgeting, and a desire to learn/wrench on my own led me to each of my noteworthy J-Body builds. The first was a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire SE with carefully selected RK Sport Parts and the second was a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport with carefully selected cross-market parts consistent with my burgeoning entry-level road racing course hobby that garnered my attention and tastes.

Flash forward a few years (<ahem> well, decades). I've further grown my mechanical skills tenfold, and - most importantly - my toolsets. My Mom and Dad are both very hardworking individuals, but they only own one vehicle. The days their schedules conflict and they must both work are absolute fiascoes for them; I have no idea how they do it.

So, I figured I'd step in a bit and help my parents out. (If you've never been able to approach a situation in which you're able to return even just a touch of the wonderful things your parents have alrwady sacrificed in helping you become better.They've been so wonderful to me that it's about damn time I began paying it back to them. I'm not made of money myself, but I've been gifted with a knack for mechanical knowledge and a desire to help those around me.

In came Copart. :smile2: Some of you may have heard of them, most likely have not. I've found that it's kinda hit or miss in that regard. Long story short, Copart is the 'dating service' dedicated to matching up wrenchers like me with salvage-title rebuildables. That said, I'm extremely proud to bring this 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt that I purchased for a scant $375.00 to fellow enthusiasts like us.

As an oldhead forum member, I know how most things are properly done. That said, I'll enrich this first, introductory post of mine with every photo Copart provided. (I always LOVE to see before-and-afters; I'd never deny you of that. :wink2:)

It has only a tick over 90,000 miles on it as well! I did buy it for my parents, but if they don't want it, I've got other Getrag-minded plans at hand.

Again, oldhead. I just like to "row" on my own with the gears.

This will be a fun one to follow.

If you want to change to a black interior, I have a full set of black seats in great shape just sitting in my basement...:blink1:
