I have a 2008 cobalt LT sedan

it currently has the power windows/locks/mirrors, but I was wanting to add a few other "factory" options

first off, does anyone know what is involved in adding the steering wheel controls to the radio, has anyone tried it, is there more parts required than just the wheel with the controls (harnesses, BCM reprogram, ect)

secondly, what is the factory location of the fog light switch...anyone have photos... I have figured out how to add the lights, and I'm VERY knowledgable with automotive wiring, so I'm sure I could wire them up to work, if I had a place to mount the switch

finally... heated seats, I have in the past used aftermarket seat heaters, and wired them to factory switches, has anyone else done this?

any help with these would be greatly appriciated...thank you in advance

Welcome to the forum. I hope you're finding it helpful so far.

As far as steering wheel controls are concerned, it's pretty easy. I just added cruise/radio controls to my 08 sedan a short while ago (sounds like we the same build). I picked up a new cobalt leather wrapped steering wheel for around $85 shipped. It was a straight swap with the wheel (airbag off, unbolt/unplug old wheel, plug in/bolt on new wheel). You'd only need a BCM flash if you get cruise; radio controls work immediately after the swap. You can add controls separately, but you'd probably end up spending about the same on a harness and switch unless you went to a bone yard.

Check out this thread http://www.yourcobalt.com/forums/chevy-cobalt-owners-lounge/25661-help-cruise-controll.html

No idea on the fogs. I mean, you'd need a bumper that could accept fogs if you want it to look truly factory.

Lastly, I haven't added heated seats but I see no reason why you couldn't. I added some to my folks' car a few years back as a gift. I had to strip off the leather, adhere elements to the pads, reseat the leather, then wire the switch to to the console. It was honestly a lot easier than I thought (even in a cold garage in January). Took me about 4 hours.

Others will probably chime in with better answers ;)

Most Cobalt except base already have the fog light harness prewired. Remove left panel if the connector is there you are pre-wired.

thank you everyone for the guidance in this...

my car already has cruise, so I wanted to add the steering wheel controls for the radio, and already had my eye on a leather wrapped steering wheel, so it's good to know they will just work after the installation, and once it's factory working, I know how to interface it into my pioneer GPS that is already installed

as far as the fogs...the harness is already there, so that's good, I'll just have to get the interior trim with fog light switch, looks like I'm off to the U-pull-it this weekend, also, I'm hunting for the front bumper cover, I have friends that work for junkyards looking for an SS front bumper for me...those are the same coupe or sedan, right?

I've installed many heated seat kits before, I'm just trying to figure out if I can use the factory switches...I'll have to get out the Fluke and test the pins on some factory switches, I'm pretty sure I can get it to work...

thank you everyone for the advice, looks like this will not be that bad to do afterall!

Have fun on your scavenger hunt!!! Which Fluke do you have? Those cost a small fortune. I used to use the one from work but now that I'm retired I've lost some benefits.

I have an older Fluke 787 I purchased quite a few years ago (back before I had a mortgage, 2 car payments and 3 kids) it's been great, and every few years, I send it out and have it calibrated.

I'm hoping to find what I'm looking for this weekend...although the last time I went to the U-Pull-it apperently the scrap metal is worth more to them than the parts...they pickings were pretty light

Sweet,

I just picked up a new OEM leather wrapped steering wheel with all controls for $70 shipped... sometimes I just love Ebay!

now, if my auctions for the interior trim with foglight and heated seat switches would end...the only thing I need is the bumper/foglights

thank you everyone for your help on this thread!

Damn! how'd you find the heated seats switches and steering wheel on eBay, who was the seller?
well, there is now this one... OEM NEW:

2009 COBALT STEERING WHEEL; WITH ALL CONTROLS | eBay

that's from the same seller, same price I paid too

and as for the switches, I bought this:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I got the box in the other day, haven't opened it yet, and I plan on painting the trim body color, so the bright red should not be a problem

I just spend time and keep looking on ebay until I find what I want

and may I add, I did open the wheel, and it's definately new, the leather is beautiful!

its a little dirty, but that cleans up real easy

oh, and my fault, I actually paid $50 BIN for that steering wheel, the seller has listed 3 more since I bought mine, apperently they are going like hotcakes, and he upped his price $10
