Ive used a lot of macs, and they do hold up very well and are not prone to virus's and that crap like PC's can get but it depends on what you will be using it for especially school wise

personally, no, its not worth it. its nice looking, but if you need any support through school, none of their software will be for mac and no one will likely be able to help you.

as for brands, its all preference and everyone will say something different, but I've always been happy with my hp's. Sony is over priced IMO

plus with a good windows 7 pc, you'll get more speed and features for your money.

i think HP is loosing their touch, one of my friends just had her brand new HP over heat and when she talked to service they gave her hell and now the cpu in it just got fried and now they are gonna repair it after so long of telling them their is a problem. i will say windows 7 is Way better than vista

apple has good customer support. and if you have the money to spend and don't mind learning the new interface (which shouldn't take too long). go for it. but if you want to save a few hundred and don't mind performing regular maintenance (format occasionally) I see no reason. Not arguing, as I like macs, I just can't bring myself to shell out the extra cash.

It all depends, I use my apple for school and it's very easy to use. It seems the functions are a lot simpler and you can get more out of one. HOWEVER my brother is into photoshop, auto CAD, solidworks and many other high end applications. He has an Alien Ware and won't ever make the switch. So it all depends on what you want it for

well that's what I have, I have word, excel and all that jazz, but the apps run different. It's easier to use a PC with HUGE amounts of memory, 1-2 terabytes, for extreme applications for the same price as an Apple that is good with most all the simpler apps but only has 250 gb
