While driving on the interstate yesterday, I decided to get some gas. Upon exiting the interstate while still driving, the trans felt like it downshifted then quickly upshifted. I pulled up to the gas pump and tried to back up a little and there was no reverse (liked it was locked against the parking pawl). I waited a few minutes and when I left I noticed that it was obviously leaving in third gear. It drove fine in third and shifted into OD (forced to drive another 610 miles to get the kids home for school today). At times when I resumed cruise, the shift back into OD was harsh. Scanned codes and had P0756 (2-3 shift solenoid) and P0700 (TCM setting CEL or MIL for emission related fault). I can get the vehicle to move a little in 1st and 2nd but have to rev the hell out of the engine to get it to move. I also noticed that if I do the same thing in neutral, it will move a little as well. I am not sure that the 2-3 shift solenoid is the total problem and given the amount of work it is to do this, I am looking a for some good advice. If this is coincidental I don't know, but I had washed the vehicle the day before this happened and had sprayed some light dust off of the engine cover. Not a soaking, but a light mist to wipe everything down. I also drove the vehicle for a short drive after this and had no problem.

Replacing 2-3 shift solenoid can be done on a hoist but not a fun job. Takes about 2 hours.

I am not afraid to replace the 2-3 solenoid, but the no reverse deal has me wondering. Have a call coming in the morning from a guy that works on these everyday. Hopefully I get this call. If this needs to come out and be rebuilt, then it is going to go to somebody to be done as I don't have my shop anymore and am not equipped to do this work. I will grab a couple of these transmissions and rebuild one for the next time one comes apart. I do not believe that a trans with 94,000 miles of exclusive interstate driving would have the type of failure that some people are telling me it is. I hope that that is not the case, but we will see.

Maybe it's the Park reverse neutral switch on top of the transmission which you said you washed. Maybe the connector came loose or water got into the switch.
