how can i find out if my 2009 cobalt ss tc has a block heater? and if not is the oil pan steel so i could use a external magnetic mount heater? cold here in edmonton and want to protect my engine from dry starts! thanks

It bolts on the back side of the engine block below the exhaust manifold.

I have a thread with some pics if I can find it.

You can't use a magnet. the pan and block are all aluminum.

Here is what the block heater looks like.





This is looking down from the top of the engine towards the passenger side. You can see it coming out from the engine block. The yellow arrows are pointing at the valve cover and the exhaust.




This is a shot under the car looking up at the block heater. It is tucked kind of behind and slightly above the water pump and under the exhaust manifold. It bolts in using one bolt.
