Please read entirely before assuming this is a "re-post". I've searched and read several posts concerning SIMILAR problems, but not found one EXACTLY like mine.
My daughter owns a 2006 Chevy Cobalt, two door. It sat undriven for just under a year due to financial and time issues getting the accordion pipe off the manifold fixed. We fixed the exhaust piece coming off the manifold, welding the new piece onto the remaining exhaust. We also replaced the alternator.
NEW problem now.

- The brake lights do not light up when pedal has pressure, INCLUDING third brake light.
- The turn signals outside do not light when engaged, front/back, left/right, but DO blink (fast) on the interior. The (fast) blink lead me to believe a bad bulb, but this is not the case. I've checked ALL bulbs for continuity, and they are good.
- The hazard lights do not engage at all.
My father(in-law) is a master mechanic, and installed the exhaust piece and alternator with my assistance. I 100% trust his work. However, he is unable to find the cause or fix for the lighting issue.
We've checked ALL bulbs = good.
We've checked ALL fuses, interior and under the hood = good.
We've done a lot of research and looked into a switch under the dash above the brake pedal - I cannot find it on this cobalt, therefore cannot confirm nor deny a problem with said switch.
We've found posts on a "multi-function switch" for similar vehicles, but not investigated this fully.
I can be mechanically inclined with assistance. Pictures are the best way for me to understand! If you tell me "where to look" I can follow directions, and learn just about anything as long as it's laid out pretty plain and in layman's terms.

Please, if you've got any information that would assist, let me know. Again, I've done all the basic checks to start, lamps, fuses,

If it spent a lot of time idle chances are your problem is due to corrosion. My guess with your symptoms you lost the system ground ( G301 ) going to the BCM. This ground is under the driver's seat attached to the floor where all the salt water from road grime gathers. Remove driver's seat (2 nuts ) and lift the carpet. If salt got to the soldered wires you will soon notice the problem. All these wires need to be tied together again and grounded on the ground stud. To me this was a poor choice as for the position of that ground but who knows their reasoning. In Florida this is no problem.

There is also a clump of brown wires called splice ( S361 ) tied together closer to the sill and these should also be all tied or soldered, but these carry the supply to the tail lights and doubt this is your problem.
