Its a manual transmission. I think its 2.2 not sure. I find my gas mileage is way better when i fuel up with premium fuel. Thoughts?

yea do not run high octane... you'll regret it

It does nothing for you besides make the motor work harder to burn it. Dont care what people think it does for their car but if it does not require it than just stick to the low stuff or if you want mid grade.
^^^^^Correct..^^^^^ It is unnecessary and waste of good money, not to mention it is the wrong fuel for that engine. Stick to regular for less issues and a bigger savings account!
It may SEEM you're getting better mileage,, but if the truth were known, it's probably the opposite.

Your Cobalt has a knock sensor , just like any other car, so by adding higher octane gas over 87 you are wasting your money as the knock sensor will just run the car as if it was running 87. No advantages at all.

Unless you are specifically tuned for it, premium isn't doing anything for you.
