I own a 2006 Cobalt LT sedan. My CEL comes on whenever the heat or a/c is used, then goes back off after a few days of not using them at all...any ideas before I have to hook it up to a reader?

Hooking it up to a code reader should be your first step, it will be easier to diagnose and help us solve whatever issue is going on.

With a good OBDII code scanner, if your CEL is not lit, you can access code history and pull up what those codes were to see whats going on. Plus with a GM Tech II scanner or Snap On Modis, you can access your PIDS to see what values are on engine data to see if something is not reading correctly. That may be a bit much, but very helpful for a technician to see whats really going on :)
