Well guys, my car's inching its way to 50k. I've been keeping up with maintenance as much as I can, but I thought I'd check and see if there's any known issues around 50k that I need to watch out for. Some of the guys on the local Ecotec facebook group suggest flushing the transmission fluid every 50k... do I really need to do it that early?

I went to the recommended servicing schedule and checked off everything I've done recently. Most of the things I haven't checked off I just haven't had a problem with, although I'm sure they could probably use attention. Let me know what you guys think.

EDIT: It's a 2010 1LT

This is the Maintenance Schedule from the Haynes Repair Manual

Every 3000 Miles or 3 Months Which Ever Comes First
[X] - Change the oil and filter

Every 6000 Miles or 6 Months Which Ever Comes First
All The Items Above Plus:
[X] - Inspect (and replace, if necessary) the windshield wiper blades
[ ] - Check and service the battery
[ ] - Check the cooling system
[X] - Rotate the tires
[X] - Check the seat belts
[X] - Inspect the brake system

Every 15,000 Miles or 12 Months Which Ever Comes First
All Items Above Plus:
[X] - Replace interior ventilation filter
[ ] - Check all underhood hoses
[ ] - Inspect the suspension, steering components, and drive axle boots (Brand new FE5 struts & shocks less than 5k ago)
[X] - Check the exhaust system
[ ] - Check the fuel system
[ ] - check the engine drive belts

Every 30,000 or 24 Months Which Ever Comes First
All Items Above Plus:
[X] - Check (and replace, if nessessary) the air filter
[ ] - Service the cooling system (drain, flush, and refil)
[X] - Change the brake fluid

Every 100,000 Miles
[ ] - Replace the automatic transaxle fluid
[ ] - Replace the manual tranaxle lubricant
[ ] - Replace the fuel filter
[ ] - Replace the spark plugs

stuff like the cooling system doesnt really need checked that often unless you have an issue with it, my cobalt is an 06 with 150+ thousand on it and never had it changed and its still good.

they trans fluid in mine was getting dark when i changed it at 140k but it wasnt burned smelling and didnt have metal in it, i only changed it cause i hit a chunk of metal on the highway and it bent and dented up my pan pretty good, almost put a hole in it so i figured id change the fluid and the the filter.

one thing i recommend is checking the wires that run near the valve cover area, there is one bundle in particular on mine that the plastic sleeve cover thing has all bot rotted away on and the wiring is exposed (not the copper of the wire itself but you can see the wire color). i would watch they dont get messed up whatever they go to IDK.

one is for the mass airflow sensor and idk what the other one is.

Good to know. I didn't notice anything with that particular bundle of wires when I was messing around in the engine bay this weekend, but I'll go ahead and double check. Don't know if I've got that other wire (the not MAF one) since mine's just an LT.

Listing the year of your car would help.
Shoot, I can't believe I forgot. It's a 2010 that I got new off the lot in September(ish?) of 2010.

So you don't have to worry about the timing chain tensioner since you would have the ''B'' revised version. Did you always use synthetic as recommended in the manual?

Unfortunately not. Until I got into modding, I didn't realize the benefits of using synthetic over conventional. Most recent oil change was synthetic though.

I did get it changed regularly though, so at least I've got that going for me, which is nice.
