I have Cobalt LT 2009. Few weeks ago I started smelling strange odor whenever my heater was going.
At the sometimes when I would accelerate i would hear splashing sound. This week my heat stopped working, and I was able to figure out that my coolant was gone. I know it's leaking somewhere I looked inside the engine and at the back I saw what I believe is coolant dripping on the right axle and on the firewall. I did not see the actual liquid dripping it was just wet and looked yellow like the color of coolant. Any ideas any help would be greatly appreciated.

peak coolant

It's a standard Peak global pre-diluted coolant for all makes and models it comes in gold bottle and it's yellow. Did not see anything else.

Sounds like your heater core or the associated lines to it are\is leaking. Maybe someone knows how better to check and or replace it. I had a heater core go out on a cavalier, and would hear a splashing noise when accelerating. That was air bubbles in the heater core. If your heat stopped working, I would suspect the core or the inlet / outlet lines. If you see coolant around the firewall, check the lines running to the heater core. Hopefully the core itself isn't bad.

Replacing the heater core looks to be a huge pain. Looks like you have to discharge the ac, disconnect the blower motor, remove the HVAC housing after removing the instrument panel cluster, steering column covers, instrument panel trim panels, knee bolster, glove box, cowl support beam and floor heating ducts.

I'm pretty sure now it's heater core. need to check better the lines coming through the firewall. What do you mean discharge ac, I have not seen anything about that. If it's the core itself, removing the dash will be interesting. If anybody has links, pdf instructions or pictures please let me know. I've seen some youtube videos about dash removal.
