so i saw that some people were talkin about cutting their stock springs and i thought it could be a cheap quick way of lowering your car.......if i would do it, id take it to a specialist but is it smart??

how dumb would it be for me to do it??

and has anyone done this???

NOOOO Don't do it, never cut springs, it will give you a shitty ride, plus on cobalts if you cut the springs enough to give it a lowered stance, and you take a corner too fast the spring can actually come out causing you to barrel roll.

your best bet is just to invest in a set of Eibach Sportlines or something like that.

I know alot of people who have cut springs, but I always hear of them saying thier ride quality sucks.

Lobalt did it. I dont know how dumb or smart it would be to do it. I have heard in the past people doing it and it could damage the springs and give you a really bouncy ride. I've also heard that the springs could be severly damaged to where they would snap. I dont know if I would do it to my car.

yeah there's like 3 other cobalts I know of with cut springs, I've riden in thier cars, and my car with sportlines feels like a cadillac compared to that lol

it might look nice but just take my advice and buy a decent set of lowering springs, I paid like $220 for mine brand new, I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find someone in the classifieds selling a set for cheap

cutting is definately not a good choice in my opinion I'm sure a few of you will agree with me.

If you choose to lower any vehicle do it the right way, but a kit or the appropriate springs and shocks. NEVER EVER cut springs!!!!

yea...you can cut the back, mine are cut all the way around... and as for ride quality... its fine to be honest, no different from the kits that ive had in the past... it has been on cut springs for over 20000 miles... no issues yet.. CUTTING springs is just FOR LOOKS because there are NO kits out there that will give a good amount of drop. If you want performance, dont cut. If you want to hammer the car out (make a lowrider/minitruckin style car), then its ur car, cut if u want. Ive had 3 cars w/ cut springs (scion tC (cut tein s-techs (rear)), mitsubishi eclipse gt & my balt) yes, all 3 cars were different, had different ride qualites & everything else. I have friends w/ cut springs on all kinds of vehicles... im not saying its smart, but im also not saying its dumb... its ur car... but if you just want a normal drop that doesnt cost a lot, go w/ the cheaper dropzone springs. I do it for show & for being low... in a year to two i plan to bag the car anyways... me & my friends have been doing the cuttin thing for a WHILE now... i HIGHLY recommend that you do NOT do this if you never have... another thing w/ a cobalt is the way the rear end is set up, yea you can cut it, but you DO NOT wanna teeder it AT ALL... cuz that's where you'll run into the bottom cup popping outta place... never had that happen because ive been driving lowriders for a long time & i know what to do...lol... so to make a long story short... do it if u want... but i dont recommend it for just any1...
something else you gotta remember... you have to be REALLY easy w/ any car/truck on cut springs... dont just let ANY1 drive it that doesnt know what they're doing...
Hope that helps :) got any specifit questions shoot me a PM... as far as I know, im the only one on YC who has cut springs.... but for the sake of my sanity... dont cut.

sorry camo, i just figured id answer in here... :)
