My car is 5 years old now and even though I keep it clean and generally in good shape I have noticed that these strips along the sides of the car are starting to rust or degrade as far as color/looks go.

Ive googled around, but havent found anything too useful. Im fine with either a way to repair them and make them look newer or if theres a place I could buy replacements from.

Also, are these just like the gm logo and cobalt logo on the trunk and are only held on by tape? Could I then technically "debadge" these as well?

I dont think they add much to the look of the car and Im guessing I could find cheap fake chrome replacements if I really wanted. Im just sick of having a part of my cars usually clean exterior slowly dying before me. lol

And to avoid starting a new thread, I have some small/shallow scratches on a couple spots of my car. Ive checked the paint codes provided on this forum and found a place which sells it, but wasnt sure what to get.

Should I get primer, paint, and clearcoat all from the same place? Is a brush on or spray can set up better? If I prime Ill have to sand as well, yes?

the scratches range from around the headlight, to on the doors and rear quarter panel

Just remove them. Honestly, they are not really going to save your gar from many door dings. Most cars doors will hit your car up where the metal on the door starts to curve inward toward the window. Every single one of my dings is there.

I was going to debadge my trunk tonight so perhaps ill just expand the operation to the doors as well. I need to check if I have a decent cleaner that wont ruin the paint while removing the tape residue and such.

I am a little concerned about paint looking different beneath the trim and gm badge. I may go ahead and do a fresh wash n wax after debadging

I used rubbing alcohol to get mine off.
Then clean the area and wax it.

I was going to get rid of mine, but.... My wife has wildly swung the door open at gas stations hitting the yellow poles three times now with my door. There are no dents in the door. This convinced me to keep them, but man I wish I did not have too. My wife is just too much of a "bull in a China Shop".

You could check you local stealership to see how much replacements are...
