I was wondering if anybody is or has experience factory paint problems on their Cobalts.

It seems to me that they went really cheap with the layers of paint and even cheaper with laying a nice layer of clear coat down. I am getting chips in the paint. I have seen spray paint from a can last longer.

I intend on bringing it to the dealer friday cause i trashed out one of my rims thanks to a NYC pothole, but I was just curious to know if anybody else has had a problem with the paint getting chipped or gouged rather easily.

They will give you a BS answer about how its your fault or all the environmental issues, blah blah blah. I went in at 6K with chips all over the hoods and they blamed me, then went isn with the paint flaking off UNDER ther fender below the window and they blamed me again with all the body kit stuff I had installed. I never took off the fenders so how is that paint coming off??

Be prepared for a BS answer to your questions, one of the many reasons why this will be my last new GM product for a long time.

All the stuff that was painted and installed by someone else has no chips from the road, and that is from 3 trips (1100 miles one way) out to inlaws and many miles on back roads out there.

It is such bullshit. 25 grand for a car and they can't even get the paint right. I am glad the powertrain wasn't built here.

Dodge Ram with 140K and NOWHERE near the rock chip damage the Cobalt had at 6K= GM inferior paint prep and inferior paint
Agreed^^^^^^^^ 4000 miles and chips everywhere, runs in the clear. I have never saw this bad of a factory paint job. I am really worried about this winter, western pa means salt and cinders for 6 months, the way my balt is going in just the summer there will be no paint on the hood by next spring.

all these paint issues is why I am really considering a CF hood at tax time or when I seel the house. Just do not want to run hood pins and detract from the look, I dont want every little snot nose punk trying to race me at lights, already have that with my Buell.

My balt is rolling over 43k any day now. and i have very few chips at all. and what i do have is too small to notice. then again the dealership talked me into simoniz coating. maybe thats got something to do with it. either way, i've had my car since 2007 and i've never hand waxed it and it still shines like new after a basic wash. not to mention the 2 accidents its been in

Yeah, mine has rock chips on the bumper and the hood - but my car is white, so you hardly see them.

Shit i wash mine once a week, and wax it at least 2 times a month. trying to keep it looking new but it isn't working out to well, i think the bugs that hit are cause the paint to chip. Cheap ass paint job. I wrote a letter to corporate about it. Going to send a letter to consumer reports and any other consumer magazine that I can think of, if I don't get a response with a resolution.

I so badly wanted to believe that American made performance cars where in the clear again and could be something of pride. While I love my Cobalt and wouldn't trade it for anything I am really pissed that I will still be paying the note on this car when it needs a new paint job.

I agree with the CF hood, that is going to be the first thing next year, cause NY winters are brutal with the salt on the road. And if those kids are screwing with you at lights cause of your hood pins, show em what's what.

By all means don't send a letter to Consumer Reports - you'll only further their biased love for Japanese cars...

Paint chips - get used to it.

You guys would shit yourselves if you had a newer Honda. At least our paint isn't water based.
