Starting a few months back my gauges would turn off and restart while driving. slowly they started shutting down more often and for longer periods of time. now they havnt worked for roughly 3 months. no speedo, tach, fuel, info. just the check engine light and security lights light up on start up then go off as usual... any ideas before i go to the stealership?

well to update i called a local shop and they told me i'll have to replace the gauge pod. then they quoted me $500+ for parts alone. so i guess i'm just looking for a good used pod for less than that.. otherwise i'm driving without the gauges for the foreseeable future.

You can buy a regular replacement gauge cluster on eBay for about 60-80 bucks for the regular ls/lt model.
You have to sort of match up the cluster depending on what year your cobalt is. If it is an 05-06 you can use 05-06 cluster, 07 for an 07, 08 for 08 etc.

ebay link

There are how-to's on the web, maybe even on this site on how to replace the cluster. Shouldn't be too hard as I know that several people on this forum have replaced theirs. Maybe one of them is willing to part with their old one if they still have it.

thanks man. i just ordered a cluster off of ebay and figured why not upgrade to a 140 white one. hopefully this fixes everything.
Great, let us know once you get it installed if this fixed the issue, that way maybe in the future somebody else who may have the same problem can find the solution for it here.

Finished the install a couple hours ago and it went great! Everything works again and the new cluster looks WAAAY better than the old one. I went from the LS 2.2 black cluster to the 2.4 SS white cluster.

Anyway i'm not doing a write up or anything because there is already a great one i used from this forum. And the whole operation took 15 minutes from start to finish. Plus I did it all inside the car with the door closed in the rain, with two tools. Oh yea and it cost me a Whopping $30!

here are some pics
