So yeea, I'm a little pissed. There has been a lot of drama and BS in my life since about december (partially why I'm rarely on here lately) and I've just kinda kept it all in. Today was the day that broke the camels back. I will admit it... I had a 45min drive home that I pretty much bawled my eyes out the entire way.
I bought a used truck just over a week ago. In Ontario you need to get a safety done before you put the vehicle in your name. If you want to haul a trailer over a certain wait the truck and the trailer need to have an annual safety done as well. Well, I was told to go to this guy 45mins from my place to get my truck safetied. This truck is SOLID. It's got paint flaking and some rust on the front fenders but other wise, there isn't a ****ing thing wrong with it. The previous owner just got all the tie rod ends, ball joints etc done and an alignment. I've never had a vehicle drive as smoothly and as straight as this. Rocket isn't even as quiet and straight. I know what a wheel bearing, a tie rod and and a ball joint all sound like when they go. Wheel bearings in particular I am THE MASTER at them. My celica had 5 go within 6 months due to poor mechanic work done, I pointed rocket's going before it even went and my husband couldn't even hear it until like a day later.
I take the truck into this new mechanic to get the annual and the prepurchase safety done and walking into that place I got a bad vibe. I told them before i even brought the truck there that the fender was bad and they said itd be fine.
They failed the ****ing thing. They told me my fender was bad (DUH!) and that my front end was all bad. No ****ing way is it bad. I call complete bullshit. I really do think this is the first time I've been raked over the coals because I'm a chick. The guy charged me 70 bucks for this. There is no reason that truck should have failed. They didn't even road test it. I'm kicking myself so hard in the ****ing ass right now for not taking it to my regular mechanic. It's going there tomorrow at 1. I called them, told them what happened, asked about the fender and the road test and if my front end should be making noise. They told me my fender should be fine as long as its not rusting on the cab (which it's not). It should have most definately been road tested and that the front end would generally make noise but it is possible that it doesn't. My husbands going to pull it apart tonight and go over it with a fine tooth comb. He went over it quickly when I got home and it all seemed fine.

ARGH now not only am I out 70 bucks (that if it comes back fine tomorrow I'm going after this mechanic today for my money back) but I honestly feel like I've been taken advantage of cuz I'm a chick.

lol you have no idea the shit ive been going through since december. Since like january, I dont think Ive had a day that my chest hasn't felt tight at some point. if it's not the cars, its something to do with the horses, if it's not the horses its family, if its not family its friends, if its not that it's finances, it never stops!!

oh....well, that kind of sucks. it could be much , much worse. so look at the big picture. My dog of 14 years was put down yesterday. Best dog. Walked off-leash everywhere, slept in our bed every night, and on top of that, my aunt who passed away about 5 years ago gave the dog to us as a gift. These are definitely the important things in life. Don't stress too much about the $70, be happy you and your family are healthy (i'm assuming they're alright) and take time to appreciate the simple things.

Wow, that really sucks. You should have had them point out what was wrong with the front end.

If a mechanic ever tells me something is bad and needs to be replaced, i ask them to show it to me and explain why they came to the decision they did.

my regular mechanic does show me. this guy had the truck out of the shop before they told me anything. i think im more so pissed at myself for not going to my regular guy and now look what happened. I guess we'll just have to see how tomorrow goes. I drove it today back to work with the radio off and the whole suspension is dead quiet. It makes no sense for the list they gave me to be wrong yet NOTHING make noise.

So anyways, delayed update. Trucks at my mechanics'. safety wise it needed A ball joint and A tie rod. There was a few minor maintenance things he advised me to do which is why it's still there. All is settled though, I'm happy (sorta lol, I'd rather not spend the money but after this the truck should be mint).

A lot  my diff has a minor leak so they need to take it apart and replace the main seal, while they're at it they're going to do pinion seal. It needs a serpentine belt, a rad cap, door pins and then what i listed above. Oh and they're going to replace two of teh brake lines cuz they're starting to rust out. It's the labor that costs the most. Too be honest we could do it here, but my temp sticker is out of date now, my husband is busy with some other stuff and he has my car to do and this way I don't have to repay for a safety. So it's just easier this way.

yeah, the original guy... And if you know your mechanic well enough, see if he can work something out where you have him call the other guy and say something like he will report him for fraud and harassment against women for charging you so much for something that "wasn't wrong"
Worked out for my mom when some shop told her she needed this and that cause it was broken, then we take it to our mechanic down the road and all is fine, he calls the shop and then that shop called her and said they'd give the money back just "don't press charges" it was so friggen funny.

But seriously, this is why shops get away with stuff like that with women, the ones that don't know bout cars mostly. They just harass them and then charge them for crap that wasn't done or needed... which is fraud.
