Hello all, I'm thinking of installing a pair of component speakers in the front, most likely these...

Alpine SPR-17S Component Speakers

I just have a few questions...

1. Where do you think is the best mounting spot for the tweeters?
2. Has anyone else installed these speakers? I heard the factory brackets were a pain to deal with...
3. Any other suggestions on components in a similar price range?

Thanks ahead of time!

there are two placs you could mount the tweeters, one on the mirror cover(that little triangular shaped plastic cover on the front of the door), or just under it

if the factory brackets are too hard, there is always drilling your own holes in the metal speaker plate...........have fun with that though

idk about prices, but the place i am dealing with has eclipse speakers on sale, i think i may grab them before they are gone

Don't think I can do it on the mirror cover, I have manual adjusters.

Hopefully I won't have to drill holes for the speakers, that would be annoying, oh well.

two sided adhesive works magic, and a little electrical tape should hide the wires on the black topdash of the door

I have JL components installed in my car and that is where I have my tweeters. I too have the manual adjusters and they were no problem to place there. Also, I did drill holes for the speakers to screw into. It's not hard tho. Took me about an hour and a half to do the entire install

For the best sound you should never have the tweeter more than 6 to 8 inches from the woofer. The tweeter should be installed in the door, flush mounted near the woofer, that way you will still have the mirror adjustments if you want them. You know you can also get component speakers that will mount in the factory locations, they come with a crossover still but the tweeter mounts on the woofer so its just like a coaxial speaker for mounting purposes.

You can do like mind4 said and use the stock bracket and put the speaker in that or just use self tapping screws and sink the speakers into the metal door, but if you do that I would recommend that you make some sort of baffle or cover for the back of the speaker. Not only does it help the sound quality to have a good seal but the gaps left where the speaker goes if not done properly will leak water into the car when it rains pretty good, not to mention all the water that runs down the speaker. The doors are made to have water run down the inside of them and out drain holes in the bottom of the doors, if there are any gaps around the speaker, you could find your floor wet someday!

Quick question, as I was doing the install. The wires comming from the car that go into the crossover are gray and off-white. Which is positve and which is negative? haha. Thanks in advance!

I believe the A Connection is positive, the easiest way to find out though is to take a volt-meter, set it to amps and connect the + to one wire and the - to the other, If the meter goes up, then go with that, if it goes down, switch them and see what happens.

Its not that difficult if you get speakers from cruthfield.com they send you step by step instructions takes no long than a 30 to 45 mins for the front speakers
