I've heard about cutting the stock antenna to be a shorty...but Im sure that reception goes by some ratio of the antennas length to the wave length of the signal. So,
-what's the right length to cut it to without harming reception and
-how do I remove the little ball thing or base to either reattach the ball to the new top or the base to the new bottom (get what I mean??)???

I cut mine down by a little more than half, and I haven't lost any reception at all. Re-using the origional ball will be both a pain and a waste of time. I think they sell some kind of ball type thing at auto parts stores but on mine I just used a piece of shrink tube. Just slid it over the top trimmed, then took the lighter to it until it had shrunk around the antenn...

Shorty Tale

I bought a shorty antenna and it lasted about 3 months before someone stole it. I bought a new one and use it for special occasions only. At 20 to 25 bucks a pop for the antenna I have to be very selective of where and when coz they get jacked quick!!!!! Anybody Know how to thief proof a primo antenna?

Wow, people steal antennas? With the technology of todays Ipods, mp3's, and xm's I didnt think they were in High demand. and 25 bucks a pop? What? I had a chevy bowtie antenna once but it snaped when I was driving through some real cold fog. it was so cool! I got it at autozone on clearance for like 3 bucks so I wasnt out a lot of money when it work!

Are you kidding? People will steal ANYTHING that isnt bolted down. The best you can do to try and keep people from taking it is to apply some lock-tite to the threads and tighten the **** out of it. They normally just try to screw it off with their hands and if they can get it they give up.

Get a factory replacement antenna from a dealer ~ $15. Cut the antenna flush with the base, then cut the antenna to the length you want it from the top so you keep the ball (say 10"). Then have a machine shop drill out the antenna from the base 3/4" to fit the cut antenna. Then clean paint from the bottom 1" of the antenna, insert it in the base and then solder it in the base. Touch it up with semi gloss black paint. Now you have a "factory-looking" shorty antenna and the original antenna when you need it.

07 -up antenna is PN 15141455 (7MM thread, list $26.04, trade $14.32) -- I don't know what the 05/6 antenna PN is.
