Hello Everyone

My name is Sean, and I am a newbie in here.
I have 2006 Chevy Cobalt with 120,000 miles in Michigan. However, I got several issues on my Cobalt; it will cost about $2000-4000 to repair those issues. Since this is my first car, I don’t want to go for exchange or sth.

Issue Detail from firestone:
Need remove and replace alternator drive belt.
Need transmission fluid service with filter.
Remove and replace stabilizer bar.
Alignment service.
Rear brakes with hardware and brake fluid exchange.
Remove and replace front shock and strut assemble

So now I am thinking about doing some repair and upgrade.

First, does anyone know good mechanic with fair price in Michigan (close to Ann Arbor).

Second, I am thinking about
“UNIVERSAL STARTER BASIC TURBO KIT 16PC UPGRADE CUSTOM” (UNIVERSAL STARTER BASIC TURBO KIT 16PC UPGRADE CUSTOM | eBay)
And
K&N AIR INTAKE & CLEANER (that’s the reason that I need very nice mechanic.)

Is that a bad idea?

Third, what kind of struts, shock and brake is the good one for sport Cobalt?
I was thinking about this guy's SUSPENSION

▪ Koni Yellow Struts & Shocks (but there are several good struts on ebay too, hard to decide.)
▪ DC Sports Upper Strut Mount
▪ Progressive Rear Sway Bar

I still have a lot of questions about my cobalt, however; let’s finish these if someone can help me with it.
P.S. I am so noob about the car and this forums. If I am asking some stupid question, please feel free to laugh at me. lol~~

Im thinking that unless you're a car guru, or you have alot of money to pay someone to install the turbo kit that you dont get it. There are plenty other things you can do if you feel like tricking out your car a little, but repairs should always come first.

Dude, I hate to say it, but it sounds like they've marked you for a whole lot of unnecessary service. Did they quote you between 2-4K for this "maintenance"? Run for the hills!

Belt replacement: If your belt is cracked or glazed, replace it. $45, DIY. $85 installed.
Transmission Svc: If you've never done it, do it. $200 max for full service.
Remove Stabilizer bar: The Cobalt has an integrated rear torsion beam...
Alignment service: Are your tires wearing improperly? If anyone tried to sell me alignment, I'd verify their computer's report with another mechanic.
Rear Brakes: Get a real brake inspection if you're worried... rears wear VERY slow.
Front suspension: Is anything actually leaking or broken? If not, waste of money.

Forget about the Turbo. At 120K, I would be sink any money into making sure you're up to date on recommended maintenance. Set aside a couple hours and read through the forum. It'll give you a huge leg-up on what you should focus on.

I know that repairs always come first, I will also find another quote for the repair.
However, the reason for the turbo kit is because I try to extend my car's life. If there are some ways to extend the life of car, I would be happy to trick out my car also.

so I did replace the belt because of cracking with expensive price, which is 169.
The next repair should be shock and strut because it's leaking.

Is Koni Yellow Struts & Shocks = FE5?

I am gonna do more research in this forum too.

Koni yellow and fe5 are not the same. The fe5 is tr suspension on the cobalt ss and forget that turbo for now. Do all the mechanical work before upgrading for looks. I know it's hard to do but would you rather have a good running for or a nice looking car that just sits in your driveway? Then get some nice wheels and go from there

4. Alignment

1. Do it yourself, just buy the serpentine belt and install it, its easy. Its about $15
2. Order this part from advancedautoparts.com, filter, filter seal and gasket is less than $20 (for once an actual auto parts store is cheaper than online).
The fluid will cost you about $45, make sure to get Dexron 6, Brand does not matter.

3. You can get the Springs and Struts for the front for about $100 each, you could do this yourself, but if not, you would probably pay about $100 to get them installed.

4. Shop around your area for the best price you can find.
