I'm rebuilding the engine in my daughters 07 ION 2.2 ECOTEC and when I removed the cams I noticed no bearings. :surprise: Is this common or did someone do a hack job repair? I bought the car used so I'm on a search and destroy mission for the cars demons.
I also noticed the cams journals and the corresponding cap were slightly gouged. The journals are on the cusp of specs within two or three tenths of a thou of Chiltons specs, the lobes are within 2 thou of each other and in decent shape.

Does anyone have the measurements of the camshaft saddle and cap assembly?
Is there a cam bearing retrofit that is a reliable repair? There are no notches to lock in a bearing. I don't want to junk a working head but also refuse to do a hackassed job. A head swap might be in order.

No bearings needed - most OHC engines are like that, at least in my experience. Just a cap that bolts over top the cam. Oil keeps that all running smoothly.

That said...a gouge doesn't sound right.
