Hey everyone. New to the site. Going to tell everyone now -- I really know very little about cars (Looking to change that!). To put that into perspective, my last car was a handmedown 1991 GEO Prism sedan. Haha, that thing was such a peice by the time I got it, too. I didn't really want to put any more money into it than I had to. It was my highschool daily drive. Nothing about that car inspired me to work on it.

Cousin wanted it back for whatever reason and blew it up (He decided oil wasn't necessary, from my understanding). Then my family helped me out with buying a new car as a colledge grad present; my 2005 base Cobalt sedan. They bought it used at 35k miles. For the four years I've owned it, I've got it up to 66k.

This car is everything I wanted and then so much more. I've been taking as much care as I can give, but I feel like I'm almost doing it a disservice leaving it as stock as it is. I don't want to rice the piss out of the poor girl, in fact I want anything BUT that. I just want to help her get out of her shell and open up. Give her just a little bit of character that she deserves. Not expecting her to ever get below 18 seconds in the quarter mile or anything like that. Just because she is a base model, doesn't mean she can't be special.

So I want to get into the community and see how that goes.

TL;DR, Sappy car-love story.

So it brings me to the question, why so much hate? Theres a lot of people on the net that just don't like the Cobalts, Chevy, or GM in general. I genuinely believe that these cars are sorely underrated or quickly labeled as disposable chick-cars. I understand this website may be a little biased, but I'd like to hear that biased opinion.

I tend to get a little wordy, haha. This little Cobalt, though. Really makes me want to get more into tuning and restoring cars.

haha coby, you love your new emoticons huh :D
As long as I get a smile out of it. Every minute spent grumpy is a moment of happiness lost forever.

You have to admit the old smileys were a bit boring.

Welcome!

I also heard some hate story about GM... but there is a hate story for every economic car company! Those little ecotec will last forever if you take care of it.

Alright. Being I have the base Cobalt, could I technically slowly tune and upgrade it to make it proper SS? Is that possible?

Hmmm I guess yes. But I doubt your wallet will love you, if you plan on making a Base/LS/LT into an exactly SS SC/TC. MP or Banker could tell more about thecnical stuff, but going boosted goes around 2300$, than you'll need to change the whole suspension set-up and brake. Than add, leather seats, lip kit, and other esthetic things and I may forget other things..
