i bought a new 08 black cobalt coupe this past weekend and i am ready to start personalizing it. I have read the many different threads about painting the bowties but i have a few questions... what type of paint do you use for it and where can you find the 1000 grit sandpaper because i did not see any at walmart

what you use depends on how far you want to go. i did mine and just used some sandpaper i had to rough up the surface, and used some krylon fusion, spray paint, and i think it looks ok. some guys have done multiple sandings working there way up the sandpaper grits and then painting and clearcoating. as far as the sandpaper goes check home depot or lowe's and if they don't have it check a good auto parts store. Oh and a tip for separating the gold bowtie from the silver part. use a thin butter knife, a letter opener or some thin blade to work in between to work loose the insanely strong adhesive they use to hold them together, and just get super glue to put it back together, most of us have found that the foam adhesive emblem tape is too thick . I will tell you, if you have a black car, in my opinion the black center section looks really good.

Go to AutoZone. Buy either Scotch Brite or 2000 grit sandpaper. In the same aisle, you will find tiny five dollar cans of Dupli-color paint. Buy one of the color you want and one of clear coat. There's also 3M double sided adhesive in the same aisle if you remove the rear bowtie when you paint.
